LET THE INCORPORATION BEGIN!
The process has begun to incorporate the town of Alamo.
Though some of you may feel incorporation for Alamo is not necessary, I believe this will greatly benefit our community. I believe we can do a better job than the county is doing... and I believe it's important that we set up process in a positive way - for our children, and our grandchildren.
If it passes, on the March 3rd, 2009 special election, the new city will be roughly 10 square miles bordered by Walnut Creek and unincorporated Tice Valley to the north, Danville to the south, Las Trampas Regional Wilderness to the west and Mt. Diablo and Diablo Foothills State Parks to the east.
The defined objectives of incorporation submitted by petition were presented as:
- Provide residents increased representation and local control in land use planning and building, municipal services and infrastructure.
- Create an efficient and politically accountable government.
- Provide more effective and efficient use of local tax revenues that is better aligned with the priorities of Alamo residents.
- Enhance the quality of life and maintain the town's unique, rural character.
- Preserve the town's historical and cultural heritage.
- Increase opportunities for Alamo residents to participate in local and government activities.
- Establish the town as a legally recognized and equal voice in the county and regional matters.
The proposal is to make Alamo a general law city governed by a five-member elected city council, which would appoint a city manager, city clerk, city attorney and treasurer. Our new city government would receive local and state taxes that currently go to the county.
With newly appointed members in place, we can together work to preserve and enhance the town of Alamo in positive ways.
Our focus would be towards:
- Police services
- Planning for land use
- Building and safety inspections
- Code enforcement
- Road maintenance
- Animal control
- Parks and recreation maintenance and services
- And other services that are currently provided by the county
Please vote for Vishwas More, and I will help keep our city running successfully.
